Surrey MLA calls for review after police collisions

Surrey Police Service collision review urged after serious incidents raise safety concerns See why an MLA wants a provincial review of officer and public safety protocols

A Surrey, B.C., MLA is urging the province to review the Surrey Police Service after several serious collisions involving officers or police vehicles over the past year. The latest incident happened on Labour Day around 3 a.m. Police say they were trying to stop a driver of a black Chevrolet Avalanche near King George Boulevard and 96 Avenue when the vehicles collided. The truck later hit a concrete SkyTrain barrier, and a pedestrian suffered lifethreatening injuries. The Independent Investigations Office is already examining the incident. SurreyCloverdale MLA Elenore Sturko says the solicitor general should also order a provincial review to determine whether changes are needed to improve safety for both officers and the public.
