Ford government delays full Taste of the Danforth payment

Taste of the Danforth funding delay leaves Toronto organizers waiting on Ford's pledge See why vendors are frustrated and what the province says is holding up payment

Ontario’s Ford government has not yet paid the full $200,000 it promised for Toronto’s Taste of the Danforth festival, months after Premier Doug Ford said the province would help revive the event. The GreekTown on the Danforth Business Improvement Area received the funding commitment earlier this year, along with matching money from the City of Toronto, to support the festival after a threeyear break during the COVID19 pandemic. Organizers used the agreement to plan the August event, but some bills and vendor payments are still outstanding. The Ministry of Tourism said it has released more than 60 per cent of the award and that the remaining funds will be paid once final reporting and audited financial statements are submitted. Local MPP Peter Tabuns said the delay is creating frustration for vendors and could make future planning harder if suppliers lose confidence in being paid on time.
