Toronto police tackle cyclist after stop sign incident

Toronto police are facing questions after a video showed officers tackling a cyclist on the city’s waterfront following an alleged stop sign violation. The incident happened Sunday evening near Bathurst Street and Queens Quay, close to Little Norway Park, where police were stopping and ticketing cyclists who allegedly failed to obey a posted stop sign. In the video, several officers can be seen restraining the cyclist after he appears to ride through the intersection and try to leave. A lawyer who specializes in cyclist defense said the response looked disproportionate for a Highway Traffic Act matter. Police said they had received multiple community complaints about cyclists ignoring the stop sign and that the rider in the video was arrested and now faces three provincial offence charges.
