A 70yearold man has pleaded guilty in a Newmarket court to dangerous driving charges after an SUV crashed into a daycare in Richmond Hill, Ont., last year, killing a toddler and injuring several children and staff members.
Court records say Vinay Kumar Gupta was trying to park outside the First Roots Early Education Academy on Sept. 10, 2025, when the vehicle continued up a sidewalk, broke through a window and struck people inside the building.
The child who died was 1 1/2 years old. Other children suffered injuries ranging from broken bones and head trauma to lifealtering harm, and three staff members were also hurt. Gupta’s sentencing is set for Dec. 8.
