The tournament has turned Granville Street into a pedestrianonly fan corridor through July 19, with businesses reporting sales increases of 20 to 40 per cent. Bar owners said the atmosphere has been lively and orderly, with fewer police incidents than on a typical weekend.
City and provincial leaders have also embraced the event, with B.C. Premier David Eby saying the World Cup is putting Vancouver on the global stage. Local businesses, including bars and even a tattoo shop, say they are preparing for more visitors as Canada and other teams continue play in the city.
