Hamilton theft probe: 32 charged in Home Depot organized theft ring Police seized $300K in goods and a Ram TRX—see how Project Checkout unfolded
Hamilton police say 32 people have been charged in connection with a series of organized thefts from Home Depot stores in the city.
Investigators opened Project Checkout after seeing a rise in thefts at local Home Depot locations earlier this year. Police say the investigation uncovered groups stealing tools and construction equipment and then reselling the items online at lower prices.
Officers say they laid 235 criminal charges, recovered more than $300,000 in suspected stolen property, and seized a 2021 Ram TRX valued at about $100,000. Police also said some suspects threatened store employees when they tried to step in. The investigation is still ongoing.
