Quebec farmers encourage consumers to buy local
Montreal urban farms open to show how food is produced and support local growers See Quebec-grown products firsthand and choose local food with confidence
Farmers in the Montreal area opened their doors to the public on Sunday as part of an effort to show how food is produced and encourage shoppers to support local producers.
The rooftop urban farm at the Palais des congrès was one of 11 farms taking part in the event. Organizers said the timing is especially relevant as the ongoing trade dispute with the United States has put a spotlight on local food systems and supply chains.
Producers are hoping visitors leave with a better understanding of where their food comes from and a stronger preference for Quebecgrown products.
