Hester Peirce resigns from the SEC after eight years, ending her crypto-era tenure See what her exit means for digital assets, SEC policy, and the next regulatory shift
SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce has said she will resign from the US Securities and Exchange Commission effective Oct. 2, ending about eight years of service at the agency.
Peirce, who is widely known as “Crypto Mom” for her support of clearer rules for digital assets, also served as director of the SEC’s Crypto Task Force. She posted her resignation letter on X and thanked the president and SEC leadership for the opportunity to serve.
Peirce’s departure comes after her term expired in June 2025, though commissioners can remain in office for a limited period if not replaced. She is expected to join Regent University School of Law in Virginia as an associate professor in November, where she will focus on securities regulation, federal litigation, and digital assets.
