Zcash targets November for NU7 mainnet upgrade

Zcash NU7 upgrade targets faster 25-second blocks and a Nov. 5 mainnet launch See what changes for wallets, nodes, and ZEC holders before the final Oct. 20 call

Zcash developers are aiming to activate the NU7 upgrade on mainnet on Nov. 5, following agreement among project teams on the upgrade’s scope and timeline. The upgrade is set to begin on testnet on Oct. 6, with a final mainnet decision expected on Oct. 20 after performance is reviewed. NU7 would shorten Zcash’s block interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, disable version 4 transactions, and add the Network Sustainability Mechanism while keeping the existing halving schedule. According to developer Sean Bowe, the change should not require major wallet updates, though full nodes, indexers, and block explorers may need adjustments. The timing comes after ZEC holders overwhelmingly supported both faster blocks and preserving halvings in a recent vote.
