Prime Minister Mark Carney said he spoke several times with U.S. President Donald Trump during the G7 summit in ÉvianlesBains, France, even though they did not hold an official bilateral meeting.
Carney told reporters the two discussed the economy, artificial intelligence, Ukraine and the U.S.Iran peace deal. He said the absence of a formal meeting did not carry any special meaning, noting that Trump’s scheduled bilateral talks were with other leaders.
The summit also included discussions on trade, sanctions on Russia, and support for Ukraine. Carney said Canada is pursuing its own trade and industrial interests, including on Chinesemade electric vehicles, while continuing talks with U.S. officials on broader trade issues.
