Fire at Etobicoke waste transfer station is contained

A fouralarm fire broke out early Tuesday at a waste transfer station near Disco Road and Highway 427 in Etobicoke, Toronto Fire said. Crews brought the blaze under control after several hours, and police later said it had been extinguished. No injuries were reported. Smoke briefly reduced visibility on Highway 427 and nearby roads, but officials said conditions improved later in the morning and road closures were lifted. The site had also experienced a major fire last October, when more than 100 firefighters responded to a fivealarm blaze. Authorities said there is no immediate sign Tuesday’s fire was suspicious, though the cause will be investigated. Environment ministry staff also visited the scene to assess whether firefighting water may have reached Mimico Creek and to oversee cleanup efforts.
