Toronto mayor says city lacks details on Billy Bishop expansion plans

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow says the city has not been fully informed about plans to expand Billy Bishop Airport, even as the Toronto Port Authority has shared some information with other governments. Chow said her staff met with port authority staff earlier this month, and that both she and her team were asked to sign nondisclosure agreements, which they declined. She also said she wants the consultant report on the expansion made public. The proposed expansion has been estimated at between $4 billion and $5 billion. Chow said she has concerns about how the project would be financed and said she has not seen revenue projections to support the cost. City staff have also warned that the airport expansion could affect waterfront housing plans and existing development near flight paths. A recent city report said the number of units in the pipeline affected by flight paths could rise if the project moves ahead, and planners said some projects might need design changes.
