The Toronto Maple Leafs have named Steve Sullivan head coach of the Toronto Marlies, their American Hockey League affiliate, the team announced Thursday.
Sullivan takes over from John Gruden, who was moved into an assistant coaching job with the Leafs after guiding the Marlies to the 2026 Calder Cup championship.
The 51yearold from Timmins, Ontario, spent last season as an assistant coach with Toronto after two seasons on the Marlies’ staff. As a player, he had a 16season NHL career that included 290 goals and 457 assists in 1,011 games with six teams, including the Maple Leafs.
Former Leafs defenceman Mark Giordano was also promoted to an assistant coaching role, while Hannu Toivonen and Nick Biamonte complete Sullivan’s coaching staff.
