Severe thunderstorm warning issued for downtown Toronto

Toronto severe thunderstorm warning brings heavy rain, flooding risk and poor visibility Track the storm’s path through downtown and waterfront areas before conditions worsen

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Toronto, including downtown, as heavy rain moves through the city on Thursday afternoon. The warning said up to 50 millimetres of rain could fall, with the storm tracking east at about 55 kilometres per hour. Areas near the waterfront and Toronto Island were also expected to be affected. Officials warned that the downpour could lead to flash flooding and reduced visibility. Severe thunderstorm warnings are used when storms are expected soon and may bring damaging hail, strong wind, or heavy rain.
