The Michiganbased Moroun family, which owns the Ambassador Bridge, is planning to expand its concrete business into Windsor, Ontario, according to records reviewed by CBC News.
The new operation, called CTC Concrete, appears to be connected to the family’s Hercules Concrete network in the Detroit area. Ontario records link the company to Matthew J. Moroun and Dan Stamper, a longtime Ambassador Bridge executive. The site is located in Windsor’s Sandwich neighbourhood, near the Canadian side of the bridge and close to residential streets.
The move has raised concern among local officials and residents because the Morouns’ concrete operations in Detroit have faced complaints about dust, pollution, and regulatory issues. The Windsor project has provincial approvals that allow production of up to 100,000 cubic metres of concrete a year and water withdrawals from the Detroit River for manufacturing purposes.
