Montreal honors police officer killed in the line of duty

Montreal held a public memorial on Tuesday at the Bell Centre for Const. Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, who was killed on June 22 in CôtedesNeiges. The ceremony brought together his family, police officers, elected officials and residents to recognize his service and remember the lives affected by the shooting. Benredouane, 34, died during a police intervention in the neighbourhood where he grew up and later worked. A civilian, Michel Mizrahi, 68, was also killed, and another police officer was injured. The suspected gunman also died. During the memorial, family members described Benredouane as a devoted brother, son, husband and father. Montreal police Chief Fady Dagher and provincial officials also paid tribute, saying the event offered officers a chance to grieve together and reflect on the risks faced in the line of duty. Benredouane leaves behind a young son and a wife who is pregnant with their second child.
