Wildfire near Logan Lake triggers evacuation alerts and highway closure

A wildfire burning near Logan Lake, British Columbia, has led to evacuation alerts for nearby properties and a partial closure of Highway 97C, according to officials.
The BC Wildfire Service said the fire broke out on Wednesday in the Guichon Creek area, south of the highway, and was estimated at about 88 hectares as of Thursday morning. Crews reported Rank 2 and 3 fire behaviour, with surface fire activity, occasional candling and a slow to moderate spread.
The fire is affecting the stretch of Highway 97C between Logan Lake and the Highland Valley Copper Mine. The ThompsonNicola Regional District and the District of Logan Lake have issued alerts for close to 60 properties. The cause has not been confirmed, but investigators believe it may be humancaused.
