Vancouver chooses preferred partner for MLB expansion bid

The City of Vancouver has picked a group led by real estate developer Zack Ross as its preferred partner to explore bringing a Major League Baseball expansion team to the city. Ross, who heads Vancouver’s Cape Group, leads The Show Vancouver, a group proposing a new ballpark and mixeduse development. The city has not announced a site, and the group has not released project costs, expected economic impact, or financing details. Mayor Ken Sim began the selection process this spring to identify an ownership group with the financial strength and experience to move an MLB bid forward. The city said it will work with The Show Vancouver under a memorandum of understanding, while future decisions on sites, land use and any project agreements would still require council approval. BC Place hosted MLB exhibition games in the past, but a 2011 renovation ended its baseball setup.
