Quebec and Ottawa sign nearly $10 billion in infrastructure deals

Quebec and the federal government have signed five infrastructure agreements worth nearly $10 billion, opening the door to major spending on transit, health care, housing and higher education over the next decade. The largest share, more than $6 billion, is set aside for public transit, including major projects such as the Montreal Metro Blue Line extension and the Quebec City tramway. The package also includes money for transit maintenance, electrification projects and related infrastructure. About $1 billion will go toward accelerating construction and upgrades at 17 healthcare facilities across the province. Another roughly $2.7 billion will support housing, student residences, postsecondary buildings and water systems that can help enable new housing development.
