U.S. kills 2 suspected drug traffickers in Caribbean boat strike
U.S. military strike hits suspected drug-trafficking vessel in the Caribbean Two suspected narco-terrorists were killed as operations intensify in Latin America
The U.S. military carried out a strike on a suspected drugtrafficking vessel in the Caribbean on May 4, U.S. Southern Command said. Officials said the operation was directed by Gen. Francis L. Donovan and targeted a boat traveling along known narcotics routes.
According to SOUTHCOM, intelligence indicated the vessel was linked to drug trafficking and was operated by what officials described as designated terrorist organizations. Two suspected narcoterrorists were killed, and no U.S. personnel were harmed.
The strike is part of a broader campaign against suspected drugtrafficking vessels in Latin American waters that has continued since early September and, officials say, has killed at least 188 people. The U.S. has also carried out similar operations in the eastern Pacific in recent weeks.
