Montreal blue-collar workers file strike notice ahead of cycling championships
Montreal blue-collar union strike notice could disrupt UCI 2026 Road Worlds See why stalled talks and wage demands may affect Sept. 20-27 event plans
Montreal's bluecollar workers' union has filed a sevenday strike notice, with a possible walkout planned for Sept. 22 to 28 during the UCI 2026 Road World Championships.
The event is set to run from Sept. 20 to 27 and could be affected if the strike goes ahead. The union says negotiations with the city have recently stalled and that the current wage offer remains below the inflation rate.
Union president Nicolas De Ciccio said the workers are asking for a serious offer at the bargaining table. The union represents about 6,000 workers, and its collective agreement expired on Dec. 31, 2024.
