Apple faces $5.7 billion patent verdict over haptics
Apple haptics patent verdict: Taction wins $5.7B in damages over iPhone tech See what the jury found and how Apple's appeal could reshape the battle.
A federal jury in San Diego found that Apple infringed two haptics patents held by Taction Technology and awarded the company more than $5.7 billion in damages.
Taction filed the lawsuit in 2021, arguing that Apple used its vibration technology in iPhones and Apple Watches without permission. Apple said it disagrees with the verdict, maintains that its Taptic Engine is different from Taction's technology, and plans to appeal.
The jury did not find the infringement to be willful. The case will now move into the appeals process.
