New Jersey voter registration forgery case reveals a former mayoral candidate Pleaded guilty after 1,000 fake forms were found; see how prosecutors acted
A former Democratic mayoral candidate in New Jersey has pleaded guilty to forging nearly 1,000 voter registration applications during the 2021 Democratic primary, according to the state attorney general's office.
Prosecutors said Henrilynn Ibezim brought a garbage bag containing falsified applications to a post office in Elizabeth, New Jersey, with plans to mail them to Union County's registration commissioner. Investigators said most of the forms appeared to have been completed by only three or four people.
Ibezim also was accused of trying to coach a witness on how to answer law enforcement questions. He pleaded guilty to one count of thirddegree forgery under a plea agreement, while other charges were dropped. Prosecutors said they will recommend probation, and sentencing is scheduled for June.
