Toronto man charged after shootout and stolen rideshare incident

A man was arrested on Sunday after police say he was involved in a shootout in Toronto and then stole a rideshare vehicle with a passenger still inside. Toronto police said officers were called to the area of Polson Street and Cherry Street at about 3:30 a.m. after reports of gunfire. Investigators said two people exchanged shots before the suspect, a 25yearold man from Brampton, allegedly took the rideshare and tried to drive away. Police said the fleeing vehicle hit pedestrians and other vehicles during the escape, leaving one person injured. The injuries were not considered lifethreatening. The accused was also shot and later faced several charges, including reckless discharge of a firearm, robbery, and forcible confinement.
