B.C. family rescues exhausted baby bear swimming in Okanagan Lake
Okanagan Lake bear rescue shows how a family saved an exhausted cub See how quick action and calm care helped it reach shore safely
A family boating on Okanagan Lake in British Columbia helped rescue an exhausted baby bear that was struggling to stay afloat.
Christina Zamniuk told Global News that the family spotted the cub swimming in the middle of the lake between their Vernon lakehouse and Adventure Bay last weekend. She said the bear appeared weak, with its nose going under and its back legs no longer moving properly.
The family contacted the B.C. Conservation Service for advice and, while waiting, used a rope to bring the cub onto their boat so it could warm up. After about an hour, they were told to move the bear closer to shore, where it made it to land and left on its own.
