OpenAI to end Cursor model access after acquisition by SpaceX

OpenAI ends Cursor model contract after SpaceX acquisition Maximum notice gives developers time to switch before Nov. 12

OpenAI said on August 28, 2026, that it plans to end its contract supplying models to Cursor after Cursor was acquired by SpaceX. The company said it will give the maximum notice allowed under the agreement and has proposed November 12, 2026, as the shutoff date. According to OpenAI, the decision was driven by concerns about whether SpaceX would use the technology within OpenAI’s terms of service. OpenAI cited its past experience with companies tied to Elon Musk and said it could not be confident the contract would be followed. OpenAI said it is holding the cancellation until the latest permitted date so developers have more time to adjust. The company also said it would support users who rely on OpenAI models inside Cursor during the transition.
