Airbus Canada says it will deliver 150 Canadianmade A220 jets to AirAsia in a deal described as the largest single firm order for the aircraft in the program’s history.
The aircraft are assembled in Mirabel, Que., and the agreement marks a major win for Quebec’s aerospace sector. Airbus commercial aircraft division head Lars Wagner said the deal highlights Quebec’s role in global aviation.
Prime Minister Mark Carney attended the announcement on Wednesday, underscoring the federal government’s effort to expand trade ties beyond the United States. Airbus has also faced production constraints at its Montrealarea facility, where output has not yet reached the level the company says is needed to break even.
