OpenAI adds EHR and public healthcare data connections to ChatGPT

OpenAI healthcare integrations connect ChatGPT to EHRs and public medical data Support clinical review, improve workflow efficiency, and access trusted sources fast

OpenAI announced new ways for healthcare organizations to connect ChatGPT with electronic health record systems and public healthcare data sources. The update, released on September 1, 2026, includes an Epic integration for authorized patient context and a Healthcare Public Data plugin for structured access to official sources such as PubMed, DailyMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, and CMS Coverage. The company said the goal is to help clinicians and healthcare teams review patient histories, recent lab results, medication changes, and followup needs more efficiently within a governed workspace. The integration is designed to support clinical workflows while preserving access controls and compliance requirements. OpenAI also highlighted evaluations conducted with physicians across multiple countries and specialties. According to the company, doctors reviewed ChatGPT responses across healthcare use cases and rated most of them safe, while separate testing found strong accuracy across connected data sources. The new capabilities are available to ChatGPT for Healthcare customers, with additional options for enterprise and eligible clinician users depending on their setup.
