Canada’s Gabriel Diallo was eliminated from Wimbledon on Thursday after a fiveset loss to Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego in the second round.
Diallo recovered from a set down twice, but Sonego closed out the match 76 (4), 46, 76 (4), 67 (6), 62 after 4 hours and 23 minutes. The result leaves Montreal’s Felix AugerAliassime as the only Canadian still in the singles draw.
Elsewhere at the All England Club, Iga Swiatek advanced comfortably with a straightsets win over Karolina Pliskova, Taylor Fritz moved into the third round with a win over Patrick Kypson, and Amanda Anisimova outlasted Sofia Kenin in a thirdset tiebreak. In women’s doubles, Leylah Fernandez and Yulia Putintseva were also eliminated.
