Judge blocks Trump’s $100,000 H-1B visa fee

A federal judge has overturned President Donald Trump’s policy that would have charged employers $100,000 for H1B visa applications, according to a ruling issued Monday in Massachusetts. Judge Leo Sorokin said the policy violated the Administrative Procedure Act and the Constitution, finding that the fee functioned like a tax that the executive branch was not authorized to impose without congressional approval. The Trump administration said it plans to appeal. The H1B program is widely used by U.S. companies, especially in technology, to hire skilled workers from abroad. Before Trump’s change last year, application fees typically ranged from about $2,000 to $5,000.
