Washington state Democrat candidate faces DUI charges after arrest video surfaces
Washington state DUI charge raises questions for House candidate Krista Perez See what the Tacoma arrest means for the 29th District race and November vote
Washington state Democrat Krista Perez, who is running for a state House seat, is facing a DUI charge after police say her vehicle struck a parked car in Tacoma on Aug. 11 and triggered damage to several vehicles.
According to police video cited by The Jason Rantz Show on Seattle Red, Perez told officers she had been drinking wine, declined field sobriety tests, and later cried and prayed in the back of a patrol car after her arrest. Prosecutors have charged her with DUI and a refusal enhancement tied to the incident.
Perez finished first in last month’s primary in the 29th Legislative District, Position 1, and will advance to the November general election against incumbent state Rep. Melanie Morgan, also a Democrat. Washington law does not bar someone with a DUI charge from serving in the legislature.
