Jean Boulet says he will not seek re-election in Quebec vote
Quebec labour minister Jean Boulet won’t seek re-election after years in CAQ cabinet His exit adds to the party’s turnover as Quebec heads toward the Oct. 5 vote
Quebec Labour Minister Jean Boulet says he will not run in the province's next election, ending a political career that included senior roles in the Coalition Avenir Québec government.
Boulet made the announcement Wednesday in TroisRivières, saying he had achieved his goals and wanted to move on to new professional challenges. He said the decision was personal and said he remained confident in the CAQ’s future under Premier Christine Fréchette.
First elected in 2018, Boulet has served as labour minister since 2022 and has also held responsibilities in immigration, economy, innovation and energy, as well as Canadian relations. His departure adds to a growing list of CAQ lawmakers leaving politics before the Oct. 5 election.
