A 28yearold man is facing charges after police say he stole a Montreal police cruiser during a robbery call and led officers on a chase of nearly 60 kilometres.
Police were called Thursday evening to a hotel on SteCatherine Street near Papineau Avenue after reports of a robbery. According to Montreal police spokesperson Manuel Couture, the suspect escaped officers and got into a squad car parked at the scene.
The vehicle was driven from midtown Montreal to Verchères on the South Shore, where the chase ended around 9:20 p.m. after the cruiser crashed into a home’s shed on MarieVictorin Boulevard. Police said the suspect was not visibly injured but was taken to hospital as a precaution and will be tested for possible drugs in his system.
