Steve Ballmer apologizes after NBA sanctions against the Clippers
Clippers salary cap violation apology: Ballmer addresses NBA sanctions and fines See what the penalties mean for Kawhi Leonard, draft picks, and the team's future
Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer has apologized after the NBA imposed sanctions on the team over salary cap circumvention violations tied to Kawhi Leonard and related business deals.
In a statement posted on X, Ballmer said it was a difficult period and expressed regret to fans, employees, and fellow NBA owners for the disruption caused by the case. He said the team is complying with the penalties, including a $30 million fine and the loss of five future firstround draft picks.
Ballmer said the Clippers have paid the fine and are moving forward, while also noting that he still disagrees with parts of the NBA’s findings. The league had said the team improperly sought to help Leonard secure offcourt income opportunities, which the Clippers and Leonard have denied.
