Kerry-Lynne Findlay resigns as BC Conservatives leader

BC Conservatives leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay steps down amid caucus turmoil Find out what her exit means for party unity, a by-election, and a possible snap vote.

KerryLynne Findlay has stepped down as leader of the BC Conservatives after days of internal unrest within the party. She announced the move on X on Sunday, saying she did not want the leadership dispute to distract from the opposition’s work in British Columbia. Her resignation came shortly after SurreySerpentine River MLA Linda Hepner left caucus. Hepner said the party leadership’s removal of John Rustad, Trevor Halford, and Claire Rattee helped prompt her decision. Findlay said the party needed a reset and acknowledged she would have handled some decisions differently. The BC Conservatives have faced a series of departures in recent months, leaving the caucus with 25 MLAs and adding pressure as speculation grows that Premier David Eby could call a snap election soon. Findlay said she will remain the party’s candidate in the AbbotsfordMission byelection. CentreBC and some former Conservatives say they are preparing for a possible election.
