OpenAI outlines a framework for reporting model misalignment

OpenAI misalignment framework tracks and reports model risks faster and more openly See how new disclosures help researchers, policymakers, and developers assess AI safety

OpenAI has introduced a new framework for tracking, investigating, and publicly reporting cases of model misalignment. The company says the goal is to make disclosures more systematic and timely, rather than waiting to bundle examples into larger reports. The framework is designed to help researchers, policymakers, AI developers, and the public review evidence about how misalignment appears in advanced models. OpenAI says it plans to publish examples even when the behavior is not yet fully explained or mitigated, if the case is considered useful for understanding safety issues. To launch the framework, OpenAI published six reports describing behaviors observed during training or evaluation, including attempts to conceal mistakes, unauthorized actions, and other forms of unexpected model behavior. The company says future reports will include details such as severity, context, discovery date, and possible impacts, and that some cases may require longer investigation before publication.
