Alberta Uses Claude to Scan and Fix Government Cybersecurity Flaws

The Government of Alberta says it has used Claude Code to review and repair security issues across provincial systems, with work beginning in 2025 through the Ministry of Technology and Innovation. According to Anthropic’s account, the ministry scanned 466 million lines of code in about 20 hours, identified vulnerabilities, and helped patch or rebuild older systems that were difficult to maintain. The effort covered applications used by Alberta’s 27 ministries, including systems tied to social services, public safety, wildfire response, tax records, procurement, and case files. Alberta says it is also using AIbased review agents to support continuous security checks during development, with redteam and blueteam style analysis and other automated reviews. The province plans to expand the approach further as it modernizes legacy applications and shares technical papers and training resources with other governments.
