Kangaroo Recovering After Capture on Montreal’s South Shore
Red kangaroo recovery at Granby Zoo after Montreal-area capture and rescue See how Quebec officials secured the animal and what investigators found next
A red kangaroo that had been seen roaming Montreal’s South Shore is recovering at Granby Zoo after being captured by Quebec authorities on Tuesday evening.
The zoo said the animal was taken in by its care and medical teams soon after arrival and was alert, feeding normally, and housed in an environment suited to its needs.
Provincial wildlife officials said the capture was part of an operation to ensure the animal’s survival. They also said an investigation is underway into the kangaroo’s previous captivity, including reports that it may have been kept in facilities that did not meet Quebec regulations.
