Scott Aitchison plans to resign from Parliament after fall session
Scott Aitchison to step down after fall session ends, ending a 3-decade career See why the longtime Conservative MP’s exit could shake Poilievre’s caucus
Conservative MP Scott Aitchison said he will step down from his seat in Parliament after the fall session ends, ending a political career that has spanned three decades.
In a statement posted Wednesday, the Parry Sound–Muskoka MP said it was time for a new chapter and that he wants to explore other opportunities. He thanked his constituents and Conservative colleagues, including party leader Pierre Poilievre, for the chance to serve.
Aitchison was first elected in 2019. His departure would make him the eighth MP to leave Poilievre’s caucus since the 2025 election, according to Global News. Poilievre responded by thanking Aitchison for his service to the party, his community and Canada.
