Heat wave moves into the Maritimes after affecting Ontario and Quebec
Heat wave spreads across Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes with dangerous humidity See where warnings are in effect and how long the extreme heat may last
A heat wave that has already affected Ontario and Quebec is now spreading into the Maritime provinces, according to Environment Canada. Heat warnings are in place across most of Ontario and Quebec, and now extend into New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
Temperatures have reached the mid30s in parts of Ontario, with humidex values making it feel even hotter. In Montreal and Quebec City, forecasts call for highs around 33 C and humidex near 45 C. Officials say the hot, humid weather is likely to continue into the weekend.
The weather system is arriving alongside stormrelated disruptions in parts of eastern Canada. Widespread power outages were reported in Ontario and Quebec after severe thunderstorms, and some Canada Day events in the National Capital Region were cancelled. In Toronto, city officials also cancelled planned FIFA World Cup match broadcasts at Nathan Phillips Square because of the extreme heat forecast.
