The federal government will invest almost $700 million to build, test and launch a new satellite for Canada’s RADARSAT Constellation Mission. The contract has been awarded to MDA Space Ltd. as part of the broader RADARSAT+ program. RADARSAT Constellation Mission has been providing Earth observation data since 2019. Its satellites help monitor Arctic sea ice, floods, maritime emergencies and environmental change, while also supporting surveillance and sovereignty efforts in the North. Industry Minister Mélanie Joly said the new satellite will strengthen Canada’s space capabilities and help maintain coverage as older satellites near the end of their service lives. The replenishment satellite is expected to launch in the early 2030s.
