More than 100 Toronto east-end residents without water after main break
Toronto water main break leaves east-end residents without service for days See why repairs are taking longer and when crews expect water to return
A water main break has left more than 100 residents in Toronto’s east end without water for more than two days. The outage affects 35 homes and one residential building near Coxwell Avenue and Gerrard Street East.
Toronto Water says the pipe, which dates back to 1911, was already due for repairs when it failed. Crews have been working on the break since early Wednesday, but the city says the job has taken longer than expected because of the age of the main, difficult ground conditions, and nearby underground utilities.
Residents say communication from the city has been limited and that bottled water and a water trailer are not enough for daily needs. City officials say they are supporting residents while repairs continue and that the goal is to restore service as soon as possible.
