Prime Minister Mark Carney said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan gave NATO leaders engraved revolvers during the alliance summit in Ankara, and that he offered maple syrup in return.
Carney said he did not see the pistol himself and that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police now has it. He added that the firearm has been decommissioned and may eventually be placed in a museum.
The exchange came during Carney’s trip to Turkey and Saudi Arabia, where NATO leaders also discussed defence spending targets and alliance security priorities.
