Vancouver driver fined $2,000 after downtown crash and guilty plea See what police said about the Alberni Street collision and court result
A Vancouver driver has been fined $2,000 after pleading guilty to a Motor Vehicle Act offence linked to a serious crash in the city’s downtown core in May 2024.
Soyoub Kim, 53, had originally faced a dangerous driving charge after police said a white Mercedes SUV struck several vehicles, damaged street furniture, and split a tree on Alberni Street. The case ended with a guilty plea to driving without due care and attention, along with a $300 victim fine surcharge.
Police said the vehicle narrowly missed pedestrians before coming to rest on the sidewalk, where a witness saw the driver leave the scene. Kim was later located and arrested, and the BC Prosecution Service confirmed there was no criminal conviction.
