Montreal bakery vandalized again after anti-tech protest

A Montreal bakery on StDenis Street was vandalized overnight Wednesday, with its front windows smashed and the words "Action anti tech" left on the wall, according to the owner. It is the second time in less than three months that the Mamie Clafoutis location has been targeted. The bakery had previously been broken into in May, when masked people stole bread and painted anticapitalist graffiti. An anonymous group later said it was protesting the bakery's alleged use of facial recognition technology, a claim the owners deny. Owner Nicolas Delourmel said security footage from this week's incident shows an object striking the glass before the person fled. Police in Montreal are investigating both the vandalism and the earlier theft. Delourmel said repeated breakins could raise insurance costs and eventually affect customers.
