Vancouver man seeks action after coyote kills chihuahua near Trout Lake

A Vancouver man is urging local officials to respond after a coyote killed his chihuahua in John Hendry Park, also known as Trout Lake Park, in East Vancouver. Travis Olson said he was walking his dog, Lulu, on Sunday evening when the coyote darted out, grabbed the small dog and ran into nearby bushes. Lulu, a rescued chihuahua and Olson’s emotional support animal, was later found dead near the east shore of Trout Lake. The B.C. Conservation Officer Service said it is following up on the incident and plans to install warning signs at the park. A local conservation group said it has recently received several reports of coyotes acting aggressively toward pets in Metro Vancouver and advised owners to keep dogs on short leashes and avoid running from a coyote if one approaches.
