No English debate planned ahead of Quebec election

An Englishlanguage debate ahead of Quebec’s fall provincial election will not take place after some major party leaders declined invitations.
A spokesperson for Premier Christine Fréchette said the Coalition Avenir du Québec would not join, pointing to other campaign commitments. The Parti Québécois also said it would not participate, saying the growing number of debates and meetings meant it had to choose how to spend its time on the campaign trail.
The Englishlanguage debate had been planned by Montreal broadcast outlets and was meant to air across television, radio, websites, streaming platforms and other channels to reach a broad audience. Québec solidaire and the Conservative Party of Quebec said they would take part, while the Quebec Liberal Party said its leader would join only if all five major parties agreed.
