Circle Foundation Backs UN Stablecoin Aid Trials
Stablecoin aid transfers get a boost as Circle funds UNDP and WFP pilots See how regulated digital payments could speed relief, cut costs, and improve tracking
Circle Foundation has announced funding for digitalpayment projects tied to the United Nations Development Programme and the World Food Programme. The initiatives will examine whether regulated stablecoins can make humanitarian aid transfers faster, cheaper, and easier to track.
UNDP plans to create a Digital Asset Innovation Pool to help country offices scale lessons from earlier pilot programs in places including Syria, Haiti, Guatemala, and Gambia. The effort is designed to address regulatory, compliance, and beneficiaryprotection requirements while fitting into local financial systems.
The World Food Programme will use the support to test two to three payment corridors over the next three years. Its work will focus on governance, risk management, reconciliation, and technical systems needed to move aid through stablecoinbased transfers and assess how well they work alongside local financialservice providers.
