Oz pushes crackdown on alleged Obamacare broker fraud
Obamacare fraud crackdown targets insurers, brokers, and fake enrollments Trump officials push call recording rules to verify eligibility and cut waste
Dr. Mehmet Oz, who leads the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, is pressing insurers to work only with brokers who record their calls with Obamacare applicants. The move is part of a wider Trump administration effort to stop unauthorized enrollments that officials say have cost taxpayers billions.
Vice President JD Vance said the administration’s antifraud task force plans to remove 750,000 fraudulent recipients from Obamacare, estimating savings of $2.2 billion. Oz said federal officials believe many of the accounts are not tied to real people and that some applications may lack the information needed to confirm eligibility.
Oz said the administration wants insurers to verify that broker conversations are documented so regulators can better confirm that applicants were properly guided and qualified for coverage. He added that officials have found more than 1 million beneficiaries without Social Security numbers and are seeking additional measures to reduce fraud and waste.
