RCMP breach of trust charges in Quebec after alleged illegal border crossing Officer accused of helping family member enter Canada; court date set for July 20

An RCMP officer in Quebec is facing criminal charges after police say he helped organize the illegal entry of a family member into Canada in September 2024. RCMP say Aaron Baringue, 36, of StJeansurRichelieu, is charged with breach of trust and obstruction and is due in court on July 20. Investigators allege he drove to the United States while off duty to pick up the family member, then took the person to an unguarded path near StArmand, Que., where the crossing took place. Police said Baringue reported the incident to a supervisor the next day after U.S. border officers flagged the crossing. He was arrested soon after and has been suspended since. The family member had previously been refused entry to Canada and was later handed over to the Canada Border Services Agency.
